7 Ways To Create Work-Life Balance As A Go-Getting Entrepreneur

There’s a quote that says something along the lines of “Entrepreneurs start their own business to not work a 9-5, but end up working 24/7.” Though intended to be sarcastic, we feel that this saying rings true not just for our team, but for many other business owners and entrepreneurs.

It seems like we’ve all been there – long hours at the office or studio, back to back meetings or appointments, and forgetting to actually take time off for a lunch break. While we thoroughly understand the passion, dedication, and drive needed to operate and run a business, we realize that working without taking time off to relax, reset, and recharge can easily lead to burnout and feelings of overwhelm.

Something we believe in is working from rest and not to rest.

This means that we incorporate boundaries with our work in our schedules, intentionally carve out time to unplug, spend time being with our loved ones, and do things we enjoy so that we can show up as our best selves for our clients and business.

So without further ado, here are 7 tips we have to share regarding ways you can also create work-life balance as a go-getting entrepreneur…

  1. Book projects in advance.

From our experience, booking projects in advance allows us to have a more accurate projection of our income and eliminates the need to hustle and work on multiple projects. If you also work with your clients on a project-to-project basis, we highly recommend announcing on your social media platforms when your books are open for the upcoming quarter or season so that you can also hit the business or income goals you need to meet without stretching yourself too thin.

  2. Start your mornings off slow.

Instead of hopping out of bed and logging into your work or going straight into your office, we highly recommend incorporating a morning routine that allows you to develop a calm and grounded mindset to help you power through the tasks you have for the day. This could look like taking time to stretch or workout, journal, or go on a walk before you immerse yourself into your work.

  3. Set specific work hours.

Our business hours are typically 9am to 5pm on weekdays. Having a cut-off time for all your tasks related to your business will allow you to create margin in your day for chores, time with your family, catching drinks or dinner with your friends, or maybe even time to catch up on your favourite Netflix show. You’ll thank yourself for granting yourself time to unwind from the seemingly unending demands of the bustling entrepreneur life.

  4. Have a designated office space and eliminate potential distractions.

Whether this looks like simply not working from your bed or driving to a co-working space or to your own office, having a work environment where you feel productive and focused so that you can get through as many tasks as you can during your designated work hours is crucial. This could look like a room in your house that has a door you can keep shut or turning your social media notifications off while you’re in meetings, consultations, or appointments with clients.

  5. Set designated times for when you respond to clients.

Like what we mentioned earlier regarding specific work hours, setting boundaries with your work in order to create balance also means setting boundaries with your clients. Though we 100% back the belief that great client experience is an integral part of running a successful business, we rarely respond to any of our clients outside our studio hours. Setting boundaries with our clients allows us to ensure that we’re taking enough time to take care of ourselves so that we can serve them at our best capacity.

  6. Don't check emails in the evening.

It’s tempting to hit refresh on our inbox or want to reply to an email the second it lands in our inbox. However, there usually isn’t an email that can’t wait until the next morning. Life is short, and chipping away little chunks of the day constantly checking your emails can take away from time you can spend fully engaging with people or activities that truly nourish your heart, mind, and soul.

  7. Take time off on the weekends to get away.

We truly believe in the philosophy of working hard and resting hard, and we want you to as well. Whether it’s a road trip with your partner and kids or catching the sunset at a local beach with friends – we encourage you to use the weekend to do the activities that bring you life and be with the people that bring you joy. We promise you’ll be a better business owner when you intentionally choose to prioritize time to yourself.

We understand that these tips can vary or look different depending on what your business provides, but we hope that these 7 tips can serve as inspiration to have your business or work revolve around your life, and not the other way around. After all, isn’t that what being an entrepreneur is all about?

That’s all for now friends, thanks for stopping by!
